Six things to know before you start your Business Website.

Web Hosting

Hosting is the space where your websitelives 24/7. You pay yearly or monthly rates. Hosting comes with all kinds of goodies like wordpress plugins and maybe free credits for google ad words or facebook credits. The standard for hosting comes with unlimited space and unlimted email accounts. (yourname@YOURDOMAIN.COM) Its also standard to pay extra for a secure certificate which its a good idea to buy one if your selling things on your site.
You may be also asked to pay extra for privacy. Fatcow for instance charges you $7 dollars to keep your email and address private from websites like whois.org , which is the national domain registration.

Domain Name

Your domain name normaly comes with your hosting. But sometimes you can purchase seperate then you must attach your domain to your hosting which could be tricky for someone whos never done that before. Then later i would suggest to purchase your domain and hosting from the same company. BEWARE NEVER EVER let your domain expire unless you don’t want it!! There are people out there who activly search for domains that expired and the client still wanted. They will happly sell you back your domain but at a price $$$!

My Advice on Hosting & Domains

Buy this yourself! You will be doing yourself a favor in the long run! There are some webdesigners out there that will happly give you a free domain and hosting, or even purchase this for you, Don’t do it! What happens if your working relationship doesnt work out? What if you want to change to a diffrent deisgner, or just want to get a better price? They can hold your domain Hostage! Will they charge you the ten dollars most companys charge you? Who knows but i wouldnt want to find out! If your not sure how to purchase your own hosting and domain ask your designer to walk you threw the process! I do it all the time!! This is the company i have used for years..

SEO, What is it?

Seach engine optiozation is how your website gets found by google, yahoo, bing and everyone else. Basicly your website is searched by little Bots! No kidding their called spider bots! That pick out all the little key words and goes threw your content of your site. The spider bots like, meta taged key words, images that are tagged, Lots of links outside of your website going to your website (called back links) and updated material. Your website should have a sitemap which list every page of your website. To learn more about seo check out google http://www.google.com/webmasters/#utm_medium=et&utm_source=us-en-et-bizsol-0-biz1-all&utm_campaign=en

So Is my Site Getting Hits?

Your design should know about google antylatics tool. Its free and easy to install plus it tells you everything you should know about whos visiting your site. I would think twice if your designer tells you just to use the program that came preinstalled with your hosting.

The Design

When you start to think about the design of your website. Really think about who is going to be looking at your website. You should already have a good idea of who your target market is. If Not , do some thinking and get this done! You design should be made of diffrent kinds of markup lanuage, html, css , and other kinds of code. What you don’t want is your website to made up of images only. Check out some of your designers code..
This is an example of what you don’t want <CODE>
<img src=”images/INDEXNEW_02.gif” alt=”" width=”154″ height=”45″ border=”0″ usemap=”#Map2″></td>
<td><img src=”images/INDEXNEW_03.gif” alt=”" width=”160″ height=”45″ border=”0″ usemap=”#Map3″></td>td colspan=”2″><img src=”images/INDEXNEW_04.gif” alt=”" width=”171″ height=”45″ border=”0″ usemap=”#Map4″></td>

See this is just a bunch of Images!!

Room to Grow

Its important that your website be updated and grow with your business! The internet world changes and so you dont want your website
to become dated. Normaly its a good idea to update your website Look every year, even if you dont get a major overhaul it still needs to
be brought up to date. I also suggest getting a local blog ( blog located on your webhosting) and updateing that as often as possible with vaule information for your clients. Not only will you be creating a vauable database of knowlegdge for your clients, but search engines Loves blogs! Your content will be full of key words! Also they are very affordable once you get your blog designed you or an employee can easly write blogs.

The Referral Engine

The referral engine was written by John Jantsch, the author of Dutch Tape marketing.
This books teaches you how to take your referral marketing to the next level. Many business survive on referrals alone. This books picks apart what a basic referral is and how to use that to create powerful marketing tools.

Marketing expert John Jantsch offers practical techniques for harnessing the power of referrals to ensure a steady flow of new customers. Keep those customers happy, and they will refer your business to even more customers. Some of Jantsch’s strategies include:

Talk with your customers, not at them. Thanks to social networking sites, companies of any size have the opportunity to engage with their customers on their home turf as never before—but the key is listening.

The sales team is the most important part of your marketing team. Sales people are the company’s main link to customers, who are the main source of referrals. Getting them on board with your referral strategy is critical.

Educate your customers. Referrals are only helpful if they’re given to the right people. Educate your customers about whom they should be talking to.

The secret to generating referrals lies in understanding the “Customer Referral Cycle”—the way customers refer others to your company who, in turn, generate even more referrals. Businesses can ensure a healthy referral cycle by moving customers and prospects along the path of Know, Like, Trust, Try, Buy, Repeat, and Refer.
If everyone in an organization keeps this sequence in mind, Jantsch argues, your business will generate referrals like a well-oiled machine.

I personal bought this book because i wanted to learn how to be a better sales person. I’d seen this book many times in the bookstore but never thought that i needed it. Boy was i wrong
not only was this a good read it was eye opening. I really connected with many of Jeffrey Gitomer’s philospies about life and businessness. He’s this goofy guy that you get an instant connection with
by his writing style. “Every salesperson learns “how to sell.” And every salesperson learns the wrong thing. People don’t like to be sold, but they love to buy. That’s the first line in sales innovator Jeffrey Gitomer’s new book, Jeffrey Gitomer’s Little Red Book of Selling. He teaches you the 12.5 Principles of Sales Greatness. He even gives you instructions on how to read the book. How to study it an get the most out of it.

I also love the size of the book it easly fit inside my purse so i could read it when ever i got a spare moment. I found myself dragging this book around me for at least a month. I even took it with me over spring break when we went fishing on the coast.

So why is it called the Jeffrey Gitomer’s Little Red Book of Selling comes in a easy-to-carry-with-you size. And of course, it’s red. Gitomer tells you in the very beginning of the book the reasons why the book is red. And those reasons correlate to your success:

Red is the color of passion and passion is the fulcrum point of selling. No passion, no sales.

Red is the color of love and if you don’t love what you sell, then you should sell something else.

Red is the brightest color and you must be bright in order to convert selling to buying.

Red is the most visible color and you must be visible to your customers with a value message, not just a sales pitch.

And red is fire and if you aren’t on fire, then you’ll lose to someone who is.I would you encourage you all to seek out a little red sales book of your own because it will be one you refer to and study for along time. I know i’m personaly looking for the addtional books to add to my collection.(Jeffery..seee i’m doing my writing excersises and they really are helping..not only are they helping me learn, but also helpig my blog, my website seo and my business… ask me how your writing excerises can help your website too)

Visit Jeffrey Gitomer’s website at www.gitomer.com
Gitomer’s other books include The Sales Bible; Customer Satisfaction is Worthless – Customer Loyalty is Priceless; and The Patterson Principles of Selling. Gitomer’s books have sold more than 750,000 copies worldwide.
